podcasting vs radio
The first difference between podcasting and radio is that the scheduling and listening habits are very different. For radio, you have a set schedule everyday on what is playing and what time. Usually, the radio presenter will reintroduce themselves, the show, the station and the topic of the conversation as some of the audience will tune in half way through. With a podcast however, there is no structured schedule, meaning listeners can download or stream episodes whenever they would like to, fitting them in with their own schedule. Therefore, podcasts wont have to reintroduce themselves.
Another difference between live radio and podcasting is the audiences that they are appealing too. Radios often aim to appeal at mass audiences by creating wide content which could be accessible in homes and cars for example. Podcasts on the other hand, tend to be aimed at a more niche audience due to their individual topics.
Another difference between podcasting and live radio is the fact that live radio cannot be edited after the broadcast. For example, if theres a radio time slot for 6am to 11am everything will be timed within that and will all be live. In this case, if there is a line said wrong you will not be able to go back and change it as there are already listeners listening in. On the other hand, podcasts can be edited as many times as needed to. Sometimes radios can be more entertaining when things are said live which wasn’t t meant to be said.
Other differences between them both could be due to regulations. Radios for example, could be illegally allowed to play a song as that is what a majority of radios are for. On the other hand, podcasts are not allowed to include music unless they have permission from the artist or they have made the song themselves.
commercial vs public service radio broadcaster The main difference between a public service broadcast and a commercial broadcast is how it is financed and owned. A public service broadcast is controlled by the public, for the public. This is more for the benefit of the public rather than anything else. A commercial broadcast on the otherhand is based on the airing of radio advertisements and television adverts for profits. This is to communicate with the public through adverts. In other words, it gets their message across.
